Factors Affecting Savings
People who earn low incomes are usually unable to save. This is because they barely make enough money to take care of their basic needs. People earn low income for various reasons. They may not have the required skills or education to get a higher paying job.
Sometimes there is a high level of unemployment in a society. This means that there are more people looking for work than there is available work. Unemployment causes people to take lower paying jobs. This reduces the amount of money they are able to save.
Families in which there are many children have to spend a lot of money supporting and taking care of their children’s needs. More children means more food, more clothes and more school fees. This greatly reduces the amount of money a family is able to save. Families that have fewer number of children are able to save more because they have less people to support.
The following are causes of poor savings :
1. Low income earnings
2. Unemployment
3. Having too many children and more than one wife.
4. Spending lavishly, on things that are not worthwhile.
