Content :

In Nigeria today, there are various marriage practices carried out. But four are well recognized. These are :

i. Christian marriage

ii. Muslim marriage

iii. Customary/ Traditional marriage

iv. Ordinance/ Court marriage

What is Marriage Failure?
Marriage failure happens when couples stop living together as husband and wife due to problems.

Divorce is the situation when two couple who agreed to marry separate legally and seize to be husband and wife.

Causes of Marriage Failures

  • Lack of communication.
  • Financial problems.
  • infertility (barrenness)
  • Lack oof trust and understanding
  • Infidelity (unfaithfulness).
  • Domestic violence.
  • Differences in values or beliefs.

Effects of Marriage Failures

  • Broken families.
  • Emotional pain for family members.
  • Poor care of children.
  • Social stigma.

How to Avoid Marriage Failures

  • Talk and listen to each other.
  • Show love and respect.
  • Solve problems together.
  • Seek advice from family or community leaders.

Activity
Discuss with your parents or elders about marriage customs in your community and share what you have learned with your class.
