Content :

Standard Verbs : These are verbs referred to as Regular verbs. They form their past tense and past participle by adding “- ed or d” to the verbs given.

Examples of Standard verbs are given below:

  1. Walk – walked – walked
  2. Talk – talked – talked
  3. Play – played – played
  4. Jump – jumped – jumped
  5. Cook – cooked – cooked
  6. Clean – cleaned – cleaned
  7. Open – opened – opened
  8. Close – closed – closed
  9. Help – helped – helped
  10. Listen – listened – listened

Non-Standard (Irregular) Verbs : These are also called irregular verbs, because they follow some set of rules in forming their past tense and past participle.

Examples of non-standard verbs are :

  1. Go – went – gone
  2. Eat – ate – eaten
  3. See – saw – seen
  4. Come – came – come
  5. Run – ran – run
  6. Take – took – taken
  7. Give – gave – given
  8. Drink – drank – drunk
  9. Write – wrote – written
  10. Sing – sang – sung

Note: Standard verbs form their past tense and past participle by adding -ed. Non-standard verbs have irregular forms that need to be memorized.
