Content:
- Meaning of Family:
- A family is a group of people who are related by blood, marriage, or adoption.
- Family members live together or take care of one another.
- Families provide love, protection, and support.
- Types of Family:
- Nuclear Family: This consists of a father, mother, and their children living together.
- Extended Family: This includes the nuclear family plus other relatives such as grandparents, uncles, aunts, and cousins living together or near each other.
- Single Parent Family: A family where a child or children live with only one parent, either mother or father.
- Childless Family: A family with a married couple but no children.
Importance of Family:
- Families take care of us when we are sick or in need.
- They teach us good manners and values.
- Families provide love and a sense of belonging.
- Presentation Steps :
- Begin the lesson by asking pupils what they understand by the word “family.”
- Discuss briefly their answers and guide them to the idea that a family is a group of people who are related to each other and live together or care for each other.
Activities:
- Draw your family tree and label the members.
- Discuss in groups the type of family you belong to and share with the class.
- Role play: Pretend to be a member of a nuclear family and an extended family and describe your daily activities.
