Marriage is the legal union between a man and a woman to become husband and wife. The joining together of a man and a woman to become one family either in the church, mosque or registry.

types of Marriage

There are basically two types of marriages, which are :

  1. Monogamy
  2. Polygamy

Monogamy : This is the type of marriage where a man marries only one wife. It is mostly practiced by the Christians.

Polygamy :This is the type of marriage whereby a man marries more than one wives. It is mostly practiced by Muslims and Traditional people. The polygamous marriage is divided into two namely : polyandry and polygyny.

I. Polyandry : This is a type of polygamous marriage where a woman have more than one husband at a time.

II. Polygyny : This is a type of polygamous marriage where a man marries more than one woman.

Presentation Steps :

Step 1 : The teacher revises the previous lesson with the learners by asking them questions orally.

Step 2 : He/she introduces the new topic to the learners by asking them, “what is Marriage?”

Step 3 : He/she the define marriage and list the types of marriage, using the learners to display short illustrations

Step 4 : The teacher then explains the forms of polygamous marriage.
