Previous Knowledge : Learners are familiar with counting and writing of numbers up to 500. They have knowledge of addition, counting together.
Learning Objectives : By the end of the lesson learners will be able to :
i. Explains the meaning of addition (+) and identify the Terms used such as plus, together, sum, total, altogether.
ii. Add 2 digit, and 3 digit numbers without regrouping or renaming or carrying
iii. Add 2 digit and 3 digit numbers without regrouping or renaming using the expanded method
Content :
Addition of Numbers (2 digit and 3 digit numbers)
Addition simply means counting together. The sign of addition is ( + ).
Addition also means to sum, plus, altogether, total, all.
When adding two different numbers together, we just need to arrange the number under tens and unit or hundred, tens and unit.
For example :
1. 5 4 + 3 5 = 8 9

Presentation Steps :
Step 1 : The teacher revises the previous lesson with the learners by asking them questions.
Step 2 : Introduces the new topic by explaining the meaning of addition. Identify the sign of addition.
Step 3 : Explains and mention other terms used in addition such as plus, sum, total, altogether.
Step 4 : Practice and work out examples of adding 2 digit numbers under tens and unit without regrouping or renaming.
Step 5 : Solve problems on addition of numbers related to real life story. Then solve by using the expanded method.
Evaluation : The teacher gives the learners some sums as follows to solve.
1. What is the sum of 23 and 51?
2. Plus 48 to 31.
3. Ade has 33 sweets and Tolu has 56 sweets. How many sweets do they have altogether?
4. Find the total of 42 and 57.
Conclusion : At the end of the lesson learners were able to answer the questions correctly.
