Previous Knowledge : Learners have little idea of an adjective as a descriptive words.
Learning Objectives : By the end of the lesson learners will be able to :
i. Define Adjectives
ii. Mention some examples of adjectives
iii. Identify adjectives in any given sentences.
Content :
Adjectives is a word which describes or qualifies a noun or a pronoun. For examples : good, happy, beautiful, ugly, polite, tall, long, short, round, flat, red, blue, etc.
Identifying Adjective in a sentence.
Most adjective usually comes before a noun which is being describe. They are placed in front of a noun. For example,
i. A wild dog
ii. A beautiful flower.
iii. A fat cat.
iv. A cold drink.
v. The tall policeman is my friend.
vi. Put the book on the round table
Classes of Adjectives
1. Adjectives of Quality : These tells us what kind of noun. E.g. Sweet, big, old, short, easy, etc.
2. Adjectives of Quantity : Tells us how many a noun is. E.g. Two apples, five cars, several girls, both men, much salt, etc.
3. Demonstrative adjectives :
4. Possessive Adjectives : It shows ownership of something. E.g. My, his, hers, yours, ours, etc. My dress, his toy, our house, your food
5. Interrogative Adjectives : It ask questions. E.g. What?, whose?, which?, etc.
Which school are you from?
Whose book is this?
What items do you want?
6. Colour Adjectives : This is used to describe the colour of an object. E.g blue, yellow, red, white, green, black, etc.
For example :
i. She is wearing a yellow dress.
ii. I saw a green snake.
iii. The sky is blue.
