Instructional Material : Chart showing verbs in singular form and plural form.
Previous Knowledge : Learners have been taught verbs in their previous class and make use of verb in simple sentence.
Learning Objectives : By the end of the lesson, learners will be able to :
i. Explain the meaning of Concord,
ii. Identify the agreement of subject and verb in sentences.
Content :
Concord simply refers to the agreement existing between the various parts of the sentence. That is the agreement between the subject and the verb in the sentence.
For instance :
1. A Singular subject takes a singular verb.
Verbs that are singular takes ‘s’ or ‘es’. For Examples : eats, goes, catches, sits, likes, gets, sweeps, reads, writes, walks, etc.
i. He likes bread and egg.
ii. The girl sweeps the classroom everyday.
iii. Mary goes to school.
iv. She writes neatly and bold.
2. A plural Subject takes a plural verb.
Verbs in plural form does not take ‘s’ or ‘es’. For example : go, eat, catch, come, drink, sweep, read, write, like, walk, sit, etc.
i. They go to church every Sunday.
ii. We like playing hide and seek games.
iii. John and Peter walk to school always.
iv. The girls sing beautifully.
v. I read my books everyday.
Presentation Steps :
Step 1 : The teacher revises the previous lesson with the learners by asking them questions orally
Step 2 : He/ she introduces the new lesson by explaining the meaning of Concord to the learners using several examples with the aid of a chart.
Step 3 : State and explain the rules of subject and verb agreement involving a singular subject with singular verb.
Step 4 : State and explain the rules of subject and verb agreement involving a plural subjects with plural verbs.
Step 5 : The teacher further explains the singular and plural of verbs with examples.

Complete the sentences with the correct form of verbs given in bracket.
