Learning Objectives: By the end of the lesson, learners will be able to :
i. Define energy-giving foods
ii. Give examples of energy- giving foods
iii. Mention the elements that makes up carbohydrates
Content:
Energy – giving foods are foods that give strength to man and other animals. They are basically starchy foods called carbohydrates.
Examples of energy-giving foods are
i. Yam, coco yam, guinea corn, rice, bread, millet, maize, wheat, potatoes, etc.
These are foods that gives energy to a the body and absorbed into the body as glucose. They are made up of three chemical elements such as carbon, hydrogen and oxygen.
Presentation Steps:
Step 1: The teacher revises the previous class work with the learners to arouse their interest.
Step 2: He/ she introduces the new topic by asking, “What is energy- giving food?” He/ she then calls the learners one after the other to answer the question.
Step 3: He/ she then asks the learners to mention examples of food that gives energy to the body and writes them on the board
Step 4: The teacher then buttress the point by explaining further and states the chemical elements that are found in carbohydrates.
