Learning Objectives : By the end of the lesson learners will be able to :
i. Define tillage and list the types
ii. Identify tools used in carrying out tillage operations
Pervious Knowledge : Learners have been taught simple farm tools and their uses.
Content :
Tillage is the breaking or turning of the soil with a simple tool or farm machine after the land has been cleared in preparation for planting crops.
It can be done manually with a hoe or mechanically with a tractor – driven plough.
Ploughing is cutting through the soil and making it into lumps or clods of soil.
Examples of human-powered tilling methods using hand tools include :
i. shoveling – using a shovel
ii. picking – using pick axe
iii. mattock work using a mattock
iv. hoeing – using hoe
v. raking – using a rake.
Presentation Steps :
Step 1 : Revises the previous lesson with the learners.
Step 2 : Introduces the new Lesson topic by explaining the meaning of tillage.
Step 3 : Identify the tools used in carrying out tillage operations on the farm.
