Behavioural Objectives: By the end of the lesson, learners will be able to :
i. Mention the common illness around our community
ii. Identify the causes of common illness.
CONTENT:
Causes of Common illness.
Diseases are caused by harmful germs such as bacteria, viruses and fungi which are introduced into the body. The germs gets into the body through our hands, mouth, nose and skin.
Some illness may be caused as a result of eating unbalanced diet, that is when the food do not contains the proper nutrients in the diet. This is called malnutrition or deficiency
The common illness found within our communities are:
i. Malaria
ii. Typhoid
iii. Cholera
iv. Dysentary
v. Tetanus
Malaria is an illness caused as a result bite from a female mosquitoes called anopheles mosquito.
Typhoid is a bacterial disease caused by contaminated food or water.
Cholera is a bacterial disease that is caused by drinking contaminated water. It spread through water leading to diarrhoea and dehydration.
Dysentery is a bacterial or parasitic infection of the intestine which causes diarrhoea that may contain blood or mucus. Other possible symptoms include abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting, and fever.
PRESENTATION:
Step 1: The teacher revises the previous topic taught with the learners.
Step 2: He/ She introduces the new topic
Step 3: He / She explains the lesson to the learners based on the stated objectives
Step 4: He/ She makes the lesson to be interactive with group discussions
Step 5: He / She then rap up the lesson by emphasizing on the salient points.
EVALUATION: The teacher reviews the lesson by asking the following questions:
1. Mention three causes of common illness found in our communities
2. Name five examples of common illness found in our communities
3. Malaria is caused by __________________________.
4. Drinking of contaminated water can cause _____________________.
5. _____________________ is the disease caused by not eating the required nutrients in food.
CONCLUSION: At the end of the lesson, the learners were able to answer the questions correctly.
