i. Identify explain the meaning of changes and give examples
ii. Identify and state the classification of changes
iii. State the differences between temporary and permanent changes.
Previous Knowledge : Learners are familiar with the meaning of Nature derived from natural.

CHANGES IN NATURE
What is change? Change is when something loses one’s or its original nature or it is an event that occurs when something passes from one state or phase to another.
When things are no longer in their normal form, it means a change has occurred or taken place. Living things and non-living things are experience changes in their daily life.
Living things are things that have life like animals (cat, dog), Humans and plants while non-living things are things without life like stone, table, chairs chalkboard.
Examples of changes are given below :
Iron becoming rusty
Green leaves turning yellow
Melting of candle wax
Ice block changing to water
Girl changes to woman
Boy changes to man
Types of changes
Changes in Natures Occurs in two forms, which are :
Temporary changes and
Permanent changes
Temporary changes (Reversible Changes)
These are changes that happened for a short time and they are reversible.
Temporary changes occurs due to the change in position or condition in the Environment. Temporary changes occurs in living and non- living things.
Examples of Temporary changes are :
Water changes to ice block during low temperature.
Ice block changes to water when the temperature is raised.
Water becomes hot when heated.
Water becomes cold removed from fire after some time.
Chameleon change its colours to its environment.
Permanent changes (irreversible Changes)
Permanent changes are changes that occurs in the body or on a thing. The change which affected a body or thing cannot be reverse to the way, it was before. That is, it is irreversible.
Permanent change also occurs in both living and non-living things.
Examples of Permanent changes :
A child changes to an adult.
Processing of cassava into Garri
A dead person cannot live again.
Trees cut into planks to make furniture.
Wood burnt into ashes.
Cement mixed with sand and water to make block.
