Content:
Body building foods can be classified into two, namely:
1. Animal source Proteins and
2. Plant source Proteins.
Animal sources of proteins are foods found to be complete protein because they contain all the essentials of amino acids needed by the body. They are proteins gotten from eggs, milk, meat and fishes.
Plant sources of proteins are the proteins that are not complete because they lack one or more of the essential amino acids. Examples of proteins from plants sources are vegetables, grains and beans
When eating, people who do not eat animal products are called vegetarians. They need to mix their diets with rich grains such as dried peas and beans. For examples we can eat rice and beans, yam and beans, bean cake, etc.
TO prevent malnutritional diseases, carbohydrate foods can be eaten along with proteins. Lack of proteins can cause the following:
i. Kwashiorkor
ii. Marasmus
These diseases are life threatening conditions of health problems.
Presentation Step:
Step 1: The teacher revises the previous lesson with the learners by asking questions orally.
Step 2: He/ she introduces the new topic to the learners by asking the learners, “what are the sources of proteins? ”
Step 3: Identify and list examples of the classes of body building foods.
Step 4: State the differences between the two classes of body building foods
Step 5: Mentions the deficiency of body building foods.
