Learning Objectives : By the end of the lesson learners will be able to :
i. Describe an animal
ii. List the classes of animals with examples.
iii. Identify some features of animals.
Content :
Animals are living things. They can move, feed , breathe, reproduce, grow , and respond to changes.
There are basically two types of animals :
1. Domestic animals
2. Wild animals
Domestic Animals : These are animals that live with us in our homes. They are found in our environment. Examples are dog, cat sheep, goat, rabbit, cow, etc.
Wild Animals : These are animals that live in the forest. They are dangerous animals. Examples of wild animals are lion, tiger, wolf, elephant, hyena, cheetah leopard, snake, giraffe, zebra, etc.
Features of animals.
1. Some animals have two legs while some have four legs.
2. Some animals body is covered with feathers. E.g chicken , turkey, bird
3. Some animals body is covered with fur. That is hair allover their body.
4. Some animals crawl on their belly. Examples are snakes, lizard, crocodile,etc.
5. Some have claws used for holding things and climbing.
6. Some animals possess wings for flying and a beak on their mouth for picking up grains.
Presentation Steps :
Step 1 : Revision of the previous topic with the learners.
Step 2 : Introduces the new topic to the learners by asking “What are animals ? ”
Step 3 : List and Explains the classification of animals based on domestic and wild animals .
Step 4 : Mentions some features of animals
