Learning Objectives: By the end of the lesson, learners will be able to :
i. Explain Right to life and Right to education
ii. Define duties and identify the duties of Citizens to their nation.
iii. Mention duties of government to their citizens and nations
Content :
Rights are the freedom, immunities, power and privilege that a citizen enjoy or have. Every citizen is enable to enjoy the following rights :
1. Right to life: Every individual has right to life. No individual is expected to take his or her life, that is commit sucide due to the problems he or she is facing or even kill anyone. It is a crime against the law of our country Nigeria to kill or murder yourself or anyone else.
2. Right to education: It is expected that every citizen has right to Basic education, which is to be provided by government (Primary school education). Every child is expected to be in school at a tender age of 6 or 7 years. They should not be seen hawking or selling by the road side at a tender age. This is termed child abuse and it is punishable under law.
Duties can be define as the responsibility or roles played by the citizen and the government.
Duties of citizens to the nation.
1. Payment of tax
2. Obedience to the laws
3. Respect for one another
4. Voting during elections
5. Respect for national symbols
Duties of government to his or her citizenry.
1. Provision of schools. They build schools such as primary and secondary schools for citizens to have formal education.
2. Provision of infrastructural facilities such good roads, pipe borne water, electricity, etc.
3. Provision of market. They build market stalls for the citizens at a cheap and subsidized rate.
4. Manage the resources of our country.
Presentation Steps:
Step 1: Revision of the previous week’s work with the learners.
Step 2: The teacher introduces the new topic by explaining right to life and education.
Step 3: He / she then explains the meaning of duties to the learners.
Step 4: He/ she asks the learners to mention duties of a citizens to the nation.
Step 5: The teacher then states the duties of government to the nation and her citizens.
Evaluation: The teacher reviews the lesson by asking the following questions:
1. Define the following:
a.) Rights to life
