Instructional Material : Pictorial chart showing the various excretory organs
Learning Objectives : By the end of the lesson learners will be able to
i. Describe the excretory system
ii. Identify the organs of excretory system
iii. State functions of the excretory organs.
Previous Knowledge : Learners are familiar with removal of waste from the body such as sweat during hot weather.
Content :
Excretion is the process whereby waste products are removed from the body. It is important because waste products are harmful to the body.
The organs that help in the removal waste from the body are known as Excretory organs.
The Excretory organs in the human body are skin, kidney, liver and lungs.
The Excretory Organ and their Waste Product.
1. Skin: The skin removes sweat from the body. The sweat consist of water, urea and some salts.
2. Kidneys: The kidney is a bean-like shape that helps in the removal of urine from the blood. There are two kidneys in our body.
3. Lungs: This helps in the removal of carbon dioxide during respiration.
4. Liver: The liver filters drugs and poisons from the blood in our body. It neutralizes the poisons before excreting them in bile.
Reasons why Excretion is important.
Excretion is important for the following reasons:
I. To remove toxic and harmful waste products from the body.
II. To maintain salt content of the body.
III. To remove excess water from the body.
IV. To make us healthy.
Presentation Steps :
Step 1: Revises the previous topic with the learners by asking them questions to arouse their interests.
Step 2: Introduces the new topic by defining excretory System and identify the organs of Excretion.
Step 3: Mentions the excretory organs and their waste product. He also state the importance of Excretion.
