Previous Knowledge : Learners have been taught the effects of unbalanced diet. They are familiar with some crops raised by seeds.

Content:
A grain crop is a cereal crop that gives energy to the body. It is mostly carbohydrates and it belongs to the grass family known as gramineae. It is a cereal crop that can be used as food by human beings as well as animals
Most grain crops seeds are caryopsis, that is they have their epicarp fused together with their mesocarp. Most grain crops are propagated, i. e. planted by seeds.
Examples of grain crops include: rice, maize, millet, guinea corn, wheat, Cowpea, etc.
Classification of Local Grain Crops.
Local grain crops are classified into two groups. They are :
(a) Grain cereals: These are highly rich in carbohydrates and energy value. Examples are rice, maize, Guinea corn, wheat and so on.
(b) Grain legumes : These are grain rich in protein, for example cowpea, soybean, pigeon pea, bambara and groundnut.
Uses of grain crops
1. They serve as food for human beings as well as livestock.
2. It can be processed into flour.
3. it can also be processed into flakes.
4. Grain crops can also be processed into baking flour.
5. It can be used in formulating or making animal feeds.
Grain crops may be roasted, boiled, or processed into other forms that are useful to both human beings and animals.
Presentation Steps:
Step I: The teacher revises the previous topic with the learners.
Step II: He/ She introduces the new topic by asking the learners, ‘what is grain crop?’
Step III: He/ She then list examples of grain crops
Step IV: The teacher states the uses of grain crops.
Evaluation: The teacher reviews the lesson by asking the following questions :
