First Term Lesson Note for Week Eight
Class : Primary Two
Subject : Computer Studies
Topic : Component of System Unit (Hard Disk Drive)
Duration : 40 Minutes
Period : Single Period
Reference Book :
- Starter’s Companion Computer for Primary Schools, Book 2.
- Lagos State Unified schemes of work for lower Primary, (Primary 1 – 3)
- Online Resources
Instructional Material : Chart showing the hard disk drive
Learning Objectives : By the end of the lesson learners will be able to
i. Describe the hard disk drive as a component of system unit
ii. State the function of a hard disk drive
Content :
Hard Disk Drive (HDD)
The Hard Disk Drive is Primary storage memory for the system unit. It is where we saves our files and data including our operating system, anti-virus and other applications.
Hard drives are measured in Gigabytes (GB) and Terabyte (TB). The larger the number, the more storage the computer has. Some examples are
There are three common types of hard drive. They are :
- PATA (Parallel Attachment Packet Interface)
- SATA (Serial Attachment Packet Interface)
- SSD (Solid State Drive)
Power Supply
The Power supply is one that feeds or supply electrical power (voltage and current) to every single parts of the system unit through the motherboard. If the power supply is bad, there will be no electrical signal to power the system unit.
Presentation Steps :
Step 1 : The teacher revises the previous lesson with the learners by asking questions orally.
Step 2 : Introduces the new topic by describing the hard disks. Mention the unit of storage.
Step 3 : He/ she then list the types of hard disk drive.
Evaluation :
1. Briefly describe the functions of hard disk drive.
2. List the three types of hard disk drive.
3. The __________________ supplies electric power to every parts of the system unit.
4. Hard drives are measured in __________ and ______________.
5. If the power supply is bad, there would be power in the system unit. (a) True (b) False (c) Undecided
Conclusion : At the end of the lesson learners were able to answer the questions, while the teacher makes some necessary corrections.
