i. Describe indigenous people.
ii. Mention examples of the indigenous people in Nigeria.
Content :
Indigenous people of the state.
Every country has people who are born in that country and whose ancestors were also horn there.
Every country also has people who moved there from other countries or localities.
The people can be classified into two groups :
1. Indigenous people
2. Non – indigenous people
Indigenous people are people who are born and raised by parents whose forefathers were the original landowners. They were known as natives, or aboriginals. They keep the traditions and culture of the region.
Non-indigenous people : Non-indigenes are people who become a member of a locality by moving there from somewhere else. They may move there temporarily or permanently. Their parents and grandparents did not originally come from that locality.
There are many indigenous people in Nigeria, including the Angas, the Chamba, the Ijaw, the Hausa, the Yoruba, and the Igbo people. There are nearly 250 ethnic groups. Each ethnic group has its own unique dialect, traditions and religion. Dialect is the language spoken by the different ethnic groups. Each ethnic group in Nigeria has its own language, culture, religion and traditions.
The three biggest tribes in Nigeria are :
* the Hausa
* the Yoruba
* the Igbo
They make up to 70% of Nigeria’s entire population.
Presentation Steps :
Step 1 : Revision of the previous lesson with the learners by asking them questions orally.
Step 2 : Introduces the new topic to the learners by explaining indigenous people of the state.
Step 3 : Explain the non-indigenous people of the state.
Step 4 : Identify the different ethnic groups found in different states.
Evaluation : The teacher reviews the lesson by asking the following questions.
