Content:
A leader is someone who guides, directs or foresees to the welfare of others. A good leader is someone who is honest, truthful and sets good examples for others.
Types of leaders
There are various types of leaders in our society at large. These are:
1. Traditional leaders
2. Religious leaders
3. Educational leaders
4. Political leaders
Traditional leaders are the leaders in charge of our community. E.g. Oba, Igwe, Emir, Chiefs, etc.
Religious leaders are the leaders that direct and guide our spiritual life and welfare either in the church or mosque. E.g. Pastor, Imam, Bishop
Educational leaders are leaders in our schools that directs the affairs of the school for a smooth operation. E.g. Head teacher, Principal, Provost, Rector, Vice- chancellor,
Political leaders are the types of leaders appointed or elected to rule or govern a state or nations. E.g. President, Governor, Commissioners, Ministers, etc.
How are leader selected?
Leaders are of different types, and their methods of selection also varies. Leaders can be selected by the following methods stated below:
Leaders by inheritance
Leaders by elections
Leaders by political appointments
Meaning of Political party
A political party is an organization that seeks to gain or maintain power within the government. They do this by participating in political campaigns.
Political parties are formed when people who have the same ideas and beliefs about how the government should be run, come together. Political parties play important roles in the democratic process.
i. They have the responsibilities to select honest and hardworking political candidates.
ii. They organize free and fair election campaigns.
iii. They have the responsibility to monitor the work of their elected representatives and make sure they fulfil their election promises.
iv. It provide a means by which people can have a voice in their government.
Political Campaign
A political campaign is a contest between candidates who want to be elected into a government office.
Election:
An election is the formal process of electing or choosing a leader. In Nigeria, election takes place every four years according to the constitution.
Presentation Steps :
Step 1 : Revision of the previous terms work with the learners by asking questions orally.
Step 2 : Introduces the new topic by explaining the meaning of leadership and state how to choose a leader.
Step 3 : Identify and explain the types of leaders.
Step 4 : Explain political party ans state their functions.
