Content :

Meaning of Marriage:
Marriage is a social institution where two people are united in a special bond to live together as husband and wife.

It is a legal and social contract that establishes rights and obligations between the couple, their children, and their families.

Marriage helps to provide companionship, support, and a stable environment for raising children.

Types of Marriage:

  1. Monogamous Marriage:
    This is a type of marriage where one man marries one woman at a time. It is the most common form of marriage in many societies.
  2. Polygamous Marriage:
    This occurs when a person has more than one spouse at the same time. It is common in some cultures and can be divided into:
  • Polygyny: One man marries several women.
  • Polyandry: One woman marries several men (less common).
  1. Group Marriage:
    This is a rare form of marriage where several men and women live together as partners.
  2. Customary Marriage:
    This type of marriage follows the traditions and customs of a particular community or ethnic group. It often involves ceremonies and rituals that are specific to that culture.
  3. Civil Marriage:
    This is a marriage recognized by the government or state authority. It is usually registered and comes with legal rights and responsibilities. It is also called ordinance or court marriage.
  4. Religious Marriage : This is a form of marriage conducted according to religious doctrines and practices. There are two categories of religious marriages. (a) Christian Marriage(Holy wedlock) and Islamic Marriage (Nikki)

Importance of Marriage:

  • Provides companionship and emotional support.
  • Ensures the continuation of family lineage.
  • Offers a stable environment for children to grow.
  • Creates bonds between different families and communities.
