Content :
Insects are small creatures with six legs and have wings to fly from one place to another.
The body parts of insects are made up of head, thorax (neck) and abdomen (stomach/ body).
Insects can be classified into two namely:
1. Winged insects : These are insects that have wings to fly from one place to another. Examples of winged insects are : butterflies, cockroaches, moth, bees, wasp, mosquities etc.
2. Wingless insects : These are insects that have no wings but walk with their legs. Examples are : ticks, bugs, etc.
Insects reproduce their young ones by laying eggs. The stages of development in an insect is called Metamorphosis.
There are two types of metamorphosis which are :
1. Complete metamorphosis : E.g butterfly mosquito
Egg ==> larva ==> Pupa ==> Imago (adult)
2. Incomplete metamorphosis : E.g. Cockroach, locust
Egg ==> Nymph == > Adult
Presentation Steps :
Step 1 : The teacher revises the previous lesson with the learners by asking questions orally.
Step 2 : He/ she introduces the new topic by describing the classes of insects
Step 3 : The teacher then gives examples of each classes of insects that is winged and wingless insects.
Step 4 : The teacher explains the stages of development in an insect.
