Content :
Meaning of illness
Illness is when a person is not feeling healthy and well. Such a person may have headache, malaria, fever, pain, or stomach ache, etc.
When someone is ill, we may say that the person is suffering from a disease.
It is a medical doctor who tests a person and finds out the disease or sickness a person is having.
When we are ill, we should inform our parents and go to the hospital for proper check up and treatment. In the hospital, we have different doctors called consultant. They are specialist in a particular area of health.
These are :
1. Dentist
2. Opticians
3. Surgeon
4. Gynecologist
5. Physicians
Causes of illness
1. Eating of contaminated food.
2. Drinking of dirty water.
3. Germs carried by house flies
4. Mosquito bites.
5. Stagnant water and dirty environment.
6. Eating too much biscuits and sweets which can lead to stomach upset.
Examples of common illnesses are :
i. Malaria
ii. Dysentary
iii. Tooth ache
iv. Cholera
v. Cough
vi. Headache
vii. Typhoid fever
Other common illnesses are :
1. Chicken pox
2. Catarrh
3. Cold
4. Stomach ache
5. Measles
Presentation Steps :
Step 1: The teacher revises the previous week’s lesson with the learners by asking questions orally.
Step 2: He/ she introduces the new topic by asking ” what is illness?” The teacher then defines illness and mentions some causes of illness.
Step 3: The teacher then asks the learners to give examples of Common illness they know.
