Behavioural Objectives: By the end of the lesson, learners will be able to :
i. Define time and explain the methods of measuring time.
ii. Identify the instruments for measuring time
iii. State the standard unit of time
Content:
Time is the passing of days, months and year taken as a whole.
The standard unit of measure of time is seconds.
We have other larger unit of time such as minutes, hours, days, weeks, months, and years, etc.
There are two ways of measuring time. These are:
i. Olden method of measuring time: These are the methods used in measuring time by our fore-fathers.
Examples of object used for telling time are:
- Candle clock
- Sun position
- Hour glass
- Animal sound and
- Water.

Modern methods of measuring time : These are the method of measuring time with the help of developed technology.
Examples of instrument used for measuring time are:
- Simple pendulum
- Wall clock
- Table clock
- Wrist watch and
- Stop watch.

The metric unit of measure of time are given below:
60 seconds makes 1 minute
60 minutes makes 1 hour
24 hours makes 1 day
7 days make 1 week
4 weeks make 1 month
52 weeks make 1 year
365 days make 1 year
366 days make 1 leap year
12 calendar months make 1 year
A decade is 10 years
A Century is 100 years
Presentation Step: The teacher presents the lesson using the steps stated below:
Step 1: He/ she revises the previous topic with the learners in form of questions and calls them in turn to answer.
Step 2: He / she introduces the new lesson by asking the questions,
i ‘”what is time?”
ii. “what is the unit of measure of time? ”
Step 3: He/ she calls the learners to describe the methods of measuring time with several examples
Step 4 : He ask the learners to recite the metric units of time.
Step 5: He/ she entertains questions and then write Note on the board for the learners to copy in their notebooks.
