Learning Objectives : By the end of the lesson learners will be able to :
i. Explain the meaning of clay.
ii. Identify the sources of clay
iii. State the uses of clay.
Previous Knowledge : Learners are familiar with clay which is the major material for modeling.
CONTENT
MODELLING (CLAY) OR PLASTICIZE
MEANING OF CLAY
Clay is a piece of rocks that is soft when it is wet and hard when it is dry. Clay is the finest grained of rock that can be shaped and baked for molding a pot and brick.
SOURCES OF CLAY
Clay is gotten from different sources :
1. They are gotten deep from the ground
2. Clay soil is gotten from bases or rocks,
3. It is usually found near a river.
USES OF CLAY
Clay is used for the following:
1. Modeling : It is used in molding object
2. Building : It is used for plastering when building.
3. Growing : It is used for planting crops.
4. Ceramic : It is used in making tea mugs and plate.
5. Pottery : It is used in molding and making of pots.
CLAY PREPARATION
Clay preparation consists of:
1. Removal of large stones, roots, etc.
2. Crushing of large particles
3. Extract its finest grain
4 Mixing materials.
MAKING OBJECT WITH CLAY (MODELLING)
1. Pot, cup, plate, etc.
2. Bricks
3. House, garden, etc.
4. Book, pen, chair and table, etc.
5. Car, bicycle, etc.
6. Insect, butterfly, etc.
Presentation Steps :
Step 1 : Revision of the previous terms work with the learners by asking questions.
Step 2 : Introduces the new topic by explaining the meaning of Modeling
Step 3 : Identify the sources of clay and state the uses of clay.
Step 4 : Mention the objects that can be modelled with the use of clay.
Evaluation :
1. Explain what a clay is.
2. Give sources of clay.
3. Produce objects found in the environment using clay.
4. Model any two objects found around in the environment using clay.
CONCLUSION : At the end of the lesson learners were able to answer the questions correctly. The teacher makes necessary correction and marks the learners notebooks.
