Online Resources
Instructional Material : Chart showing the multiplication tables.
Learning Objectives : By the end of the lesson learners will be able to :
i. Identify the basic multiplication tables of 1 to 10.
ii. Multiply 2-digit numbers by 1-digit numbers
iii. Multiply 3 whole numbers, taking 2 at a time
Content :
Multiplication is the repeated addition of a number. It is the counting of numbers by grouping.
The sign of multiplication is (x).
To multiply also means product.
Recite the multiplication tables from 2 times to 12 times.
Multiplication by grouping:
1. 🎈🎈🎈 🎈🎈🎈 🎈🎈🎈
= 3 groups of 3 balloons
= 3 + 3 + 3 = 9
3 x 3 = 9
2. ✏️✏️✏️✏️ ✏️✏️✏️✏️ ✏️✏️✏️✏️ ✏️✏️✏️✏️ ✏️✏️✏️✏️
= 5groups of 4 pencils
4 + 4 + 4 + 4 + 4 = 20
5 x 4 = 20
Multiplication of 2 digit by 1 digit Numbers :
For multiplication without regrouping: Multiply the units column, 3 x 3 = 9, write your answer. Then multiply the tens column 3 x 2 = 6 and write the answer. Hence, 23 x 3 = 69
For regrouping :
Multiply the unit column, 3 x 4 =12, write 2 then carry 1 to the tens. Then multiply 3 x 4 = 12 and add the 1 carried to tens 12 + 1 = 13. Therefore, 44 x 3 = 132.

Multiplication of numbers taking 2 at a time :
1. (4 x 3) x 3
= (12) x 3
= 36
2. 3 x (4 x 7)
= 3 x (28)
= 84
Presentation Steps :
Step 1 : The teacher revises the previous lesson with the learners by asking them questions.
Step 2 : He/ she introduces the new topic by describing multiplication of numbers.
Step 3 : He/ she then explains the concept of multiplication of 2 digit by 1 digit without renaming and with renaming.
Step 4 : The teacher then went ahead to explain multiplication of 3 whole numbers taking two at a time.
Step 5 : Explains thoroughly with several examples and calls the learners to work out some on the board as well and corrects them where necessary.
Evaluation :
A. Multiply the following numbers :
1a. 32 x 3 b. 44 x 2 c. 20 x 4
2a. 47 x 3 b. 54 x 6 c. 85 x 5
B. Multiply by taking 2 digit at a time.
i. (2 x 3) x 4 ii. 3 x (4 x 7)
iii. 3 x 8 x 5 iv. 2 x 4 x 6
CONCLUSION : The teacher summarizes the lesson for a better understanding and mark their notebooks and solved the corrections on the board for the learners to see.
