Second Term Lesson Note for Week Four
Class : Primary Three
Subject : Mathematics
Topic : Multiplication of Number(using distributive rules)
Duration : 80 Minutes
Period : Double Period
Reference Book :
- New Method Mathematics for Primary Schools, Book 3, by Learn Africa.
- Lagos State Unified schemes of work for lower Primary, Primary 1 – 3.
- Online Resources
Instructional Material : Chart showing the distributive rules on addition and subtraction of Numbers
Learning Objectives : By the end of the lesson learners will be able to :
i. Explain the distributive rules of multiplication on addition
ii. Describe the distributive rules of multiplication on subtraction.
iii. Solve problems on the distributive riles of multiplication.
Content :
Distributive rules of multiplication on addition.
For example:
1. 5 x (4 + 5)
= (5 x 4) + (5 x 5)
= 20 + 25
= 45
2. 3 x (7 + 4)
= (3 x 7) + (3 x 4)
= 21 + 12
= 33
Distribution rules of multiplication on subtraction.
For example :
1. 6 x (9 – 7)
= (6 x 9) – (6 x 7)
= 54 – 42
= 12
2. 4 x (10 – 6)
= (4 x 10) – (4 x 6)
= 40 – 24
= 16
Presentation Steps :
Step 1 : The teacher revises the previous lesson with the learners by asking them questions
Step 2 : He introduces the lesson by explaining the distributive rules of multiplication on addition and subtraction of Numbers.
Step 3 : The teacher worked several examples and calls on the learners to do the solve some questions on the board.
Step 4 : He/ she then gives them some questions as Class work to do.
Evaluation :
Solve the following multiplication using the distributive rules on addition and subtraction of Numbers.
1. 4 x (7 + 4)
2. 5 x (9 + 6)
3. 9 x (10 – 6)
4. 6 x (11 – 7)
Conclusion : The teacher wrap up the lesson by stating the procedures used in solving the problems on distributive rules of multiplications. He moves round and correct them where necessary.
