ii. Identify and list the nutrients in the food we eat.
iii. State importance of nutrients in food.
Content :
Nutrients are the nourishment we derive or get from food, drinks and fruits that we eat. The nutrients gives energy, build the body and repair tissues. It can also protect the body.
Nutrients can be found in the food we eat on a daily basis. The nutrients includes : carbohydrates, proteins, fats & oil, Vitamins, Minerals and water.
The nutrients in the food that we consume on daily basis to build and maintain good health.
When our food lack these six main classes of nutrients, it can lead to unbalance of nutrient which affect our health.
1. Carbohydrates : These are nutrients that gives energy to the body. They are found in food such as rice, maize, yam, bread, potatoes, cocoyam, cassava, plantain, etc.
2. Proteins : These are nutrients found in that found in food such as fish, meat, egg, beans, etc.
3. Fats & oil : These also give energy to the body. They are gotten from eating food like, butter, cheese, palm oil, coconut oil, groundnut oil, etc.
4. Vitamins : These are gotten from fruits and vegetables. They help to protect the body. Examples of vitamin food are : apple, orange, pawpaw, pineapple, avocado, cherry, banana, spinach, ugwu, watermelon, water leaf, etc.
5. Mineral salt : These are found in food like sea food such as prawn, crab, fish, liver, kidney, onions, pepper, tomatoes, etc.
Presentation Steps :
Step 1 : The teacher revises the previous lesson with the learners by asking questions orally.
Step 2 : Introduces the new topic to the learners by asking them to define nutrients.
Step 3 : He/ she asked the learners to identify the nutrients in the food we eat.
Step 4 : The teacher states the importance of nutrients in food.
