Content :
The objects used in Marriage differs base on cultural differences and the major ethnic groups in Nigeria.
The objects used in contracting marriage includes :
- Honey
- Sugar
- Kolanut
- Alligator Pepper
- Bitter kola
- Salt
- Tubers of yam
- Dried Fish
- Hot drink (Schnapp)
- Palm wine
- Fruit wine
- Soft
- Bag of rice
- Box of clothes
- Bride Price
- Some other money paid to the family of the bride
The two families comes together with friends and well-wishers. The elders from both families sit to check the lists and agree on the items and payments. Then the spoke person called “Alaga ìdúró” and “Alaga ijoko”.
The bride price is paid with other gift items and the bride is handed over to the groom’s family. Then followed by entertainment of guests and refreshment for all those present.
