Behavioural Objectives : By the end of the lesson, learners will be able to :
i. Define plants as living things;
ii. identify the major parts of a plant;
iii. State characteristics of plants as living things.
Content:
Plants are living things that grow in the soil.
Plants are made up of three main parts which are roots, stem and leaves.
i. The root : This is the part of plant that grows inside the soil. It holds and supports the plant firm to the ground in the soil.
ii. The stem: This is the part of the plant that grows above the ground. It carries the branches and leaves.
iii. The leaves: This is the part of plant that is mostly green in colour. It helps in producing food for plant with the aid of sunlight.
Presentation Steps:
Step I: The teacher revised the previous lesson with the learners to arouse the interest
Step I: He / she introduces the new topic to the learners by defining plants as living things.
Step III: The teacher asked the learners to identify the different types of plant
StepIV: He / she describe the major parts of plants
Evaluation : The teacher reviews the lesson by asking the following questions :
1. What are plants?
2. List the major parts of a plant.
3. The part of plant that grows inside the soil is called _________________. (a) leaves (b) root (c) stem
4. The leaves and the stem makes up the _______________ system. (a) root (b) shoot (c) fruit
Conclusion: At the end of the lesson, the learners were able to answer the questions correctly.
