Learning Objectives : By the end of the lesson learners will be able to :
i. Define a pronoun
ii. Identify pronouns in sentences
iii. Change nouns into pronouns in sentences.
Content :
A pronoun is a word used to replace a noun. It is a word that is used instead of a noun. Examples of pronouns are : I, he, She, it, they, we, her, him, them, his, our, their, etc.
We have singular and plural pronouns. These are :
Types of Pronouns
1. Personal Pronouns : These are used to replace persons, animals or things. Examples I, You, We, They, He, She, It, me, us, them, him, her, etc.
2. Possessive Pronouns : are used to show who the thing belongs to. It is used to show the owner of something. Examples are mine, ours, his, hers, theirs, yours, etc.
3. Reflexive Pronouns : are used to show that the action returns to the doer. Examples : I – myself, You – yourself, He – himself, She – herself, They – themselves, We – ourselves and itself.
How to change a noun to pronoun in a given sentence.
1. John got a new job. He got a new job.
2. Children should watch less television. They should watch less television.
3. Ladi is a nurse. She is a nurse.
4. Maria gave the letter to John. She gave the letter to him.
5. That dog is very fierce. It barks every day.
Presentation Steps :
Step 1 : The teacher revises the previous lesson with the learners.
Step 2 : He/ she introduces the new topic by defining a pronoun and give examples
Step 3 : List the types of pronouns and explains with examples
Step 4 : Teacher gives room for questions from the learners and explains further.
