Previous Knowledge : Learners are familiar with the examples of Risk Factors in Food.
Learning Objectives : By the end of the lesson learners will be able to :
i. Identify the risk factors in the distribution and preparation.
Content :
Some of the risk factors in food distribution and preparation includes :
1. Poor storage conditions : canned food gets spoilt easily when they are not properly kept and stored.
2. Poor handling : Some people tend not to wash food or fruits before eating them. Some are utensils used in the preparation and packaging has no cover or lid.
3. Poor hygiene : Some people do not cover the food after preparation, allowing flies and insects to get into the food.
4. Poor packaging techniques : Some people are careless in keeping their food in safe condition to avoid flies and insects from getting into it.
5. High temperature : The food prepared and stored for distribution can be at risk if the proper temperature is not maintained. For examples Salad can get soured if not refrigerated under normal temperature.
Presentation Steps :
Step 1 : The teacher revises the previous lesson with the learners by asking questions orally.
Step 2 : He/ she introduces the new lesson by identifying the risk factors in food preparation and distribution.
Step 3 : The teacher explains some of the risk factors in food distribution.
Evaluation :
1. List three risk factors in food preparation and distribution.
2. Food like salad can get sour if not refrigerated under normal temperature.
