i. Identify and name the sense organ of taste.
ii. Classify food as sweet, salty, sour or bitter.
iii. List examples of sweet, salty, sour or bitter substances.
Content :
The tongue
The tongue is the organ of taste. It tells us the taste of substances. The tongue has four different tastes, which are sweet, salty, sour and bitter.
Sweet taste – The tip of the tongue
Salty and sour taste – The middle part of the tongue right and left.
Bitter taste – The inner part of the tongue.
Sweet substances : honey, sugar, pineapple, apple, mango, sweet drink, sweet chocolate, ice cream, etc.
Bitter tastes can be gotten from bitter leaf, aloe Vera, bitter kola, black, coffee and chloroquine, etc.
Salty tastes are from salt, sea water, tears from the eyes and urine.
Sour tastes are derived from yogurt, lime, and unripe fruit.
Presentation Steps :
Step 1 : The teacher revises the previous lesson with the learners by asking questions orally.
Step 2 : He/she introduces the new topic by describing the sense of taste
Step 3 : Then describes the four part of taste
Step 4 : Identify and state the importance of the tongue
