Third Term Lesson Note for Week Six
Class: Primary 5
Subject: Basic Science and Technology
Topic: Simple Electric Circuit.
Duration : 40 minutes
Period : Single Period
Reference Book :
- Basic Science and Technology for Primary Schools, Book 5
- Lagos State Unified Schemes of Work for Primary Schools (Primary 4 – 6)
- Online Resources
Instructional Material : Chart showing components of an electric circuit.
Learning Objectives : By the end of the lesson learners will be able to :
i. Define simple electric circuit
ii. State the function of each component in a circuit.
Previous Knowledge : Learners are familiar with conductors and Jon-conductors.
Content :
The electric devices that can be used in simple electric circuits are : cell, battery, fuse, key, lamp.
A cell: is a chemical pack that can give out or store electric current. It can either be wet cell or dry cell.
A battery: is a group of cells.🔋
A fuse: is an electric device used in limiting the quality or current flow in a circuit.
A circuit: is a set up of electric devices used to generate energy. e.g. Light energy
A lamp: is an electric device that produces light as a result of its heated filament.💡
A resistor: is an electric device made to produce a particular amount of resistance to the flow of current.
Presentation Steps :
Step 1 : Revises the previous Lesson with the learners
Step 2 : Introduces the new topic by defining electric circuit.
Step 3 : Identify and state functions of each components in an electric circuit.
Review Exercise:
1.) List the electric devices needed to make a simple circuit : _________________, ________________, ____________________, ____________________
____________________
2.) A chemical pack that can store or give out electric current is known as _______________.
3.) What is a circuit? ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
4.) A ___________ is an electric device that produces light as a result of its heated filament.
Conclusion : At the end of the lesson, learners were able to answer the questions correctly.
