Learning Objectives : By the end of the lesson learners will be able to :
Identify the sources of dangers at home, in school and our community.
Content : Sources of Dangers
The home is a place where people live, feel comfortable and safe. It is therefore, important to keep it safe and free from danger.
The sources of danger at home:
1. Slippery floor or staircase : We should make sure we clean the floor whenever water pours on the floor, to avoid falling as a result of slippery floor. This can lead to a serious injury.
2. Use of disinfectants or pesticides : Sometimes, when we use disinfectants to kill insects, we breathe them in, or even put the hand in our mouth, or nostrils. This is dangerous and can cause injury
3. Use of sharp objects : We cannot do without sharp objects such as knives, scissors or razor blade. We need to be careful and use them properly, to avoid danger of cuts.
4. Kitchen fire : At home, we cannot do without cooking with fire. But if not managed properly, it can be dangerous. Fire can cause burns or the smoke from the fire can choking or suffocation.
Sources of Danger in School:
The school is a place where we learn to read and write. There are also some sources of danger in the school. These are :
1. Classroom furniture : This can cause accident, if the learners play rough in the class by climbing and running up and down.
2. Play ground equipment : The play ground equipment such as swings, rocking horse, jig-saw, etc. can cause accident, or injury if not properly monitored. These equipment are made of iron, wood, etc.
3. Chemicals used in school : In the laboratory, the handling of chemical is very dangerous, the learners must be guarded by their on the use and safety precaution.
Sources of danger in the Environment :
1. Pollution : This is the release of harmful substance to the environment, which makes it unsafe for us. Water, air, land or noise can be source of pollution in our environment.
2. Waste : This can also be a source of danger to our health, if not properly monitored. Our waste must be covered to avoid inhaling bad odor. This can result to dysentery or cholera, when we eat contaminated food or drink polluted water.

Step 1 : Revises the previous lesson with the learners by asking questions orally.

Step 3 : Identify the sources of danger at home and in school.
Step 4 : Mentions the sources of danger in the environment or community.
