Instructional Material : Pictorial chart on sources of energy.
Learning Objectives : By the end of the lesson learners will be able to:
i. Identify and list the sources of energy
ii. Explain the sources of energy.
Previous Knowledge : Learners have been taught the meaning and uses of energy.
Content :
Energy II – Sources of Energy
Sources of energy are the different places where the energy are gotten from. Energy from sun, called Solar energy.
The different sources of energy are as follows :
1. Solar energy : This is the energy gotten from the sun. It gives us heat energy and light energy.
2. Kinetic energy : This is the energy found in moving object. Energy when a body is at work.
3. Potential energy : This is the energy reserved for later usage. Energy formed when a body is at rest.
4. Heat energy : This is the energy gotten from electrical appliances. For example : electric iron, electric cooker, oven, etc.
5. Chemical energy : This is the energy formed from chemical substance. E.g. Battery, fuel (petrol)
6. Wind energy : This is the energy that comes from moving air. E.g. Wind mill, air we breathe
7. Light energy : This is the energy that gives us light to see. E.g bulb, torch light,
8. Sound energy : This is the energy present in objects that produces sound. E.g. Bell, gong, flute, trumpet
9. Electrical energy : This is the energy that comes from the flow electric currents.
Presentation Steps :
Step 1 : The teacher revises the previous lesson with the learners by asking them questions orally.
Step 2 : He/ she introduces the new topic to the learners by explaining the meaning of sources of energy.
Step 3 : Then, asks the learners to mention the different sources of energy and guides them
Step 4 : Describe the different sources of energy and gives illustrations with the aid of the picture chart.
Evaluation :
1. Sources of energy are the places where energy is gotten from. (True, False)
2. The energy gotten from the sun is called _____________ energy. (a) Chemical (b) Solar (c) Wind
3. Which of the following is an example heat source of energy? (a) Electric iron (b) battery (c) bell
4. The following objects can produce sound energy except ___________. (a) flute (b) oven (c) gong
5. ___________ energy gives us light to see. (a) Sound (b) Heat (c) Light
Conclusion : At the end of the lesson, learners were able to answer the questions correctly.
1. _____________ and ___________ are objects that can give us heat energy. (oven, battery, electric iron, air)
2. Energy from the sun gives us _________ and __________ during the day.
3. __________ energy is the energy that comes from the flow of electric current. (a) Electrical (b) Sound (c) Wind
4. List five sources of energy :
i. ________________ ii. _______________
iii. _______________ iv. _______________
