Behavioural Objectives : By the end of the lesson, learners will be able to :

i. Describe the South- South Geopolitical Zones.

ii. List the states in the South-South zones and their capitals.

iii. Identify the largest city in the zones.

Content:

The South-South Geopolitical Zones of Nigeria is referred to as the middle belt. They are called the Niger-Delta states. The states are Riverine region, with mineral resources such as crude oil.

It is made up of six (6) states which includes:

1.  Akwa Ibom   Uyo  (The Promised Land)

2. Bayelsa   Yenogoa  ( The Pride of the Nation)

3. Cross River  Calabar. (The People’s Paradise)

4. Delta      Asaba  (The Big Heart)

5. Edo     Benin city  (The Heart Beat of Nigeria)

6. Rivers  Port Harcourt  (The Treasure of the Nation)

The major cities in this regions are Benin city, Warri, Sapele, Calabar, Uyo, Ikot Ekpene, Ugep, etc.

The largest city is Port Harcourt.

Presentation Steps:

Step 1: The teacher reviews the previous lesson explained by asking the learners questions orally.

Step 2: He/ she introduces the new lesson by asking the learners to describe the South-South Geopolitical Zones.

Step 3:He/ she then list the states under the south-south Zones and their capitals with their slogans.

Step 4: The teacher then asks the learners to mention some cities in the south-south Zones and identify the largest city.
