Content :
Standard Verbs : These are verbs referred to as Regular verbs. They form their past tense and past participle by adding “- ed or d” to the verbs given.
Examples of Standard verbs are given below:
- Walk – walked – walked
- Talk – talked – talked
- Play – played – played
- Jump – jumped – jumped
- Cook – cooked – cooked
- Clean – cleaned – cleaned
- Open – opened – opened
- Close – closed – closed
- Help – helped – helped
- Listen – listened – listened
Non-Standard (Irregular) Verbs : These are also called irregular verbs, because they follow some set of rules in forming their past tense and past participle.
Examples of non-standard verbs are :
- Go – went – gone
- Eat – ate – eaten
- See – saw – seen
- Come – came – come
- Run – ran – run
- Take – took – taken
- Give – gave – given
- Drink – drank – drunk
- Write – wrote – written
- Sing – sang – sung
Note: Standard verbs form their past tense and past participle by adding -ed. Non-standard verbs have irregular forms that need to be memorized.
