Learning Objectives : By the end of the lesson learners will be able to :
i. Read the time correctly from the face of the clock.
ii. Tell the time in digit and analog form.
iii. Reading and telling time at o’ clock, half past, quarter to and quarter past.
Content :
Time is the measure of an event.
A clock is used to measure time. It has two hands: the hour hand and the minute hand.
The standard unit of time is seconds. We have other larger unit such as minutes, hours, days, weeks, months, year, etc.
60 seconds make 1 minute
60 minutes make 1 hour
24 hours make 1 day
7 days make 1 week
4weeks make 1 month
52 weeks make 1 year
12 months make 1 year
365 days make 1 year.
366 days make 1 Leap year.
Telling the time:
1. When the long hand points to 12, the time is O’ clock, while the short hand tell the time.
2. When the long hand points to 6, the time is Half past, while the short hand is in-between two numbers to tell the time.
3. When the long hand points to 3, the time is Quarter past, while the short hand tells the time.
4. When the long points to 9, the time is Quarter to, while the short hand tells the time.
Reading the time.
Time can be a read in two ways :
a. Reading the position of the hour hand, then the position of the minute hand, and giving the time in words. This is called analogue time.
b. Reading the position of the hour
Presentation Steps :
Step 1 : Revises the previous lesson with the learners by asking them questions
Step 2 : Introduces the new topic by asking the learners to recite the metric unit of time
Step 3 : Read and tell the time in digital and analog forms.
Evaluation :
Conclusion : At the end of the lesson , learners were able to answer the question .
