Content :
Geography means the study of the earth and how it has been shaped by both human factors and natural physical factors.
Lagos is Nigeria’s largest city, located in the South-West of the country on the coast of the Gulf of Guinea, close to Nigeria’s border with Benin.
The city was originally a tiny fishing village on an Island until the Portuguese settlers arrived in the 15th Century. It became the capital city of Nigeria until 1991 when the government moved to Abuja. As the population of Lagos has grown, so as the city’s physical size. The original settlement consisted of Lagos Island. By the 1960’s the city had expanded north into mainland. A population boom occurred during the 1970’s due to the oil industry’s growth, many thousands of people moved to the city seeking jobs in this industry. The city looks like any modern city. The city centre skyline is dominated by modern high rise offices, surrounded by miles of sprawling suburbs linked by busy roads.
