The State Government
The State government is the second tier of government. It is headed by the Executive Governor. The State is made up of the State Assembly, which comprises of law makers known as Legislators.
In Nigeria, there are thirty – six states and their capitals. Each States has its slogan or motto.
The State Governor, appoints Commissioners that head some State offices and parastatals. For example, Commissioner for Health, Commissioner for Education, Commissioner for works etc.
The State government generate money through revenue collections and payment of taxes. They also get grant or allocations from the Federal which is used in running the affairs of the state.
The state has three arms of government just like the federal government, which is made up of legislature, judiciary and executives.
The role of state government to the people (e.g. building of roads, provision of jobs for people)
Importance of the state government
1. It builds roads that are called Trunk B roads.
2. It provides jobs for the people in the state through programmes that encourage economic activities.
3. It maintains law and order in the state.
4. It provides social amenities such as electricity, water, and transportation.
5. It is the responsibility of state government to ensure justice in the state through the judiciary
6. The State government also provide free education for people within the state.
7. It also provides Primary health care centers and maternity homes and state hospital to take care of the sick people.

Step 2 : He/ she introduces the new topic by describing the State government.
Step 3 : Identify the roles played by the state government
Step 4 : The teacher writes Note on the board for the learners.
