Content :
The Senses
The Senses are parts of the body that create awareness about our environment. These Senses are called sense organs.
Sense organs are the organs that create awareness or tell us about the changes or dangers in our immediate surroundings. The sense organs in the human body are eyes, nose, ears, tongue and skin.
In the human body, there are five senses. These are :
1. The Sense of sight
2. The Sense of hearing
3. The Sense of smell
4. The Sense of taste
5. The Sense of touch.
The Eyes is the sense of sight. It helps us to see what is going on around us.
The Ears is the sense of hearing. It helps us to hear the sound in our surroundings and distinguish between the different sound. For example, human beings, animals and objects such as machines.
The nose is the sense of smell. It helps to perceive odour around us and determine if they are good or bad.
The tongue is the sense of taste. It helps to determine the taste of substances taken into the body. It gives us sweet, bitter, sour or salty taste.
The skin is the sense of touch. It helps to feel our surrounding. It tells us if our environment is hot or cold.
The sense organs gives information about our environment. These organs help a lot to detect any form of sense. The brain receives signals from the sense organs and interpret what is happening around us.
Presentation Steps :
Step 1 : The teacher revises the previous lesson with the learners by asking questions orally.
Step 2 : He/ she introduces the new topic to the learners by describing the Senses of the body.
Step 3 : He/ she calls the learners to identify the Senses in the body.
Step 4 : The teacher guides them by singing a rhyme about the Senses.
