i. Describe the simple future tense
ii. Identify the future tense and give examples
iii. State the uses of the future tense
Previous Knowledge : Learners are familiar with the auxiliary verb “will” or “shall”
Content :
The Simple Future Tense
The simple future tense are the verbs used to express a future action that is yet to take place. For examples: “will” or “shall”
“will” is used with the pronouns He, she, you, They or It in a sentence, while “shall” is used with I or We.
The Simple Future Tense has the following uses:
i. To express a future action. E.g.
a.) I shall see you tomorrow .
b.) Will you be at home next week?
ii. To refer to a future action in a conditional sentence. E.g.
a.) If you fail your exams, father will scold you.
b.) If you study hard, you will pass your examinations.
iii. It is used to give commands or provide explanations. E.g.
a.) The meeting will start at eight sharp.
b.) You will do what I say.
Presentation Steps:
Step 1: The teacher revises the previous lesson with the learners.
Step 2: He/ she introduces the topic by defining future tense and give examples of the future tense verb
Step 3: He/she makes simple sentences and calls the learners to give more examples.
Step 4: The teacher then state the uses of the future tense.
Evaluation: The teacher evaluates the learners by asking the following questions.
Underline the future tense in the following sentences.
1. I shall travel to the America next week.
2. The train will pass here soon.
3. The party will start at 9.00am prompt.
4. The fried rice will be cooked in a few minutes.
5. We shall visit you tomorrow .
6. If you practice very well , you will be able to blow the flute.
7. I shall eat rice tomorrow.
8. She will sell bread in the evening.
9. They will work hard next week.
Conclusion: At the end of the lesson, learners were able to answer the questions correctly.
