Learning Objectives : By the end of this lesson, learners will be able to :
i. Explain the meaning of Labour
ii. Define Trade union.
iii. Identify and give examples of Trade Unions in Nigeria.
Previous Knowledge :
Pupils are familiar with the topic in their previous classes.
CONTENT :
Concept of Labour and Trade Union.
Labour is the force employed to get things done in the society.
Trade Union is an association of workers protecting their interest in an organization.
The labour force in school includes the teachers, The Headmistress or Headmaster, the school bursar, gate keepers, the Cooks in kitchen, cleaners and Gardeners.
In Nigeria, there are different trade union from various sectors. These are :
1. Nigerian Union of Teacher’s (NUT)
2.Nigerian Union of Journalist (NUJ)
3. National Union of Road Transport Worker (NURWT)
4. Nigerian Bar Association (NBA)
5. Association of Academic Staff Union (AASU)
6. Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC)
Presentation Steps :
Step 1 : Teacher revises the previous lesson with the learners.
Step 2 : Introduces the new topic to the learners by explaining Labour and Trade Union.
Step 3 : Gives examples of trade union
Step 4 : Mentions roles played by trade union.
