iii. Explains underdeveloped technology, give examples and state characteristics

 

Content:

Technology is the use of scientific knowledge to create or make objects to solve human problems.

Forms of Technology

There are basically two forms of technology which are :

a. Underdeveloped Technology  and

b. Developed Technology

Underdeveloped technology is the Periods or Era where there is little or no knowledge of science. During this time, farming and most things were done with crude implements.

Transportation was carried out using animals such as camels and donkeys. Food processing was done with the use of a grinding stones and firewood.

The types of houses built were mud houses or hut. There was well water, river and streams. Communication was done using gongs.

Characteristics of Underdeveloped Technology

1. It is a low profile technology.

2. Crude implements were used

3. It involves olden days methods of doing things

4. Animals were used as means of transportation.

 

Previous Knowledge : Learners were familiar with meaning of technology and examples of products of technology.

 

Presentation Step:

Step 1: The teacher revises the previous lesson with the learners by asking questions orally.

Step 2: He/she introduces the new topic by asking the learners to define technology

Step 3: He / she then ask the learners to identify the forms of technology. The teacher list and explains

Step 4: The teacher explains the underdeveloped technology and states it characteristics.
