Behavioural Objectives : By the end of the lesson, learners will be able to :
i. Describe vegetables
ii. Mention the classes of vegetables and gives examples of each class.
Content :
Vegetables are food ingredients which are eaten to supply minerals as well as vitamin A, B, C, D, E and K.
The vitamins supplied by vegetables can be grouped into two namely:
i. Water Soluble vitamins : vitamin B and C.
ii. Fat Soluble vitamins: vitamin A, D, E and K.
Classification of Vegetables
Vegetables can be classified into two namely:
a.) Leafy vegetables : These are types of vegetables in which the leaves can be eaten.
Examples of leafy vegetables are Amaranthus, Ewedu, Spinach, Lettuce, Cabbage, Bitter leaf, etc.
B.) Fruity vegetables : These are types vegetables in which the fruits are eaten.
Examples of fruity vegetables are Okro, Pepper, Tomato, Pumpkin, etc.
Presentation Step:
Step 1: The teacher revises the previous lesson taught with the learners by asking questions orally.
Step 2: He/ she introduces the new topic by defining vegetables
Step 3: He/ she then asks the learners to mention some examples of vegetables
Step 4: The teacher then states the classes of vegetables and gives examples
