Instructional Material : Chart showing comparison of weight of an object using heavier than or lighter than.
Learning Objectives : By the end of the lesson learners will be able to :
i. Explain the meaning of weight.
ii. Arrange objects according their weight using weighs “more than” or “less than”
Content :
Weight is the measure of how heavy an object is.
It is used in comparing size of two or more objects and determining which weighs more or weighs less.
The unit of weight is gram (g) and kilogram (kg).
The gram (g) is used when weighing lighter objects such as pencil, ruler , cup, book, etc
The kilogram (kg) is used when weighing heavy objects like bags of cement, bags of rice, gas cylinder etc.
There are different types of weighing scales. These include :
1. Bathroom scale
2. Kitchen scale
3. Spring scale
4. Balance scale
5. Weighing machine.
Compare the given objects and state which weighs “more than” or “less than“.
1. A table weighs more than a book.
2. A feather weighs less than a pen.
3. A bucket weighs more than a jug.
4. A stone weighs more than a pencil.
5. A duster weighs less than a mug.
Presentation Steps :
Step 1 : Revises the previous lesson with the learners by asking them questions on length.
Step 2 : Introduces the new topic by explaining the meaning of weight and the unit of measuring weight.
Step 3 : Identify the different types of instrument used in measuring weight of an objects.
Step 4 : Comparing the weight of two or more objects, using “weighs more than” or ” weighs less than“.
