Contents:
Meaning of Weight Instruments for measuring weight
Comparing weights of objects
The weights of objects is defined as the heaviness or lightness of objects.
We can compare weights of objects by lifting them up to know which is heavier or lighter.
Instruments used for measuring the weights of objects
The instruments used for measuring weights of objects are:
1. Simple balance scale: The simple balance scale is used to compare the weights of two objects at the same time.
2. The weighing pan scale: This is used for weighing objects in the market or cold room where frozen foods are sold.e.g fish, chicken, etc.
3. The bathroom scale: This is used to measure the weights of children. The weights of children can be measured by stepping bare-footed on the bathroom scale.
Comparison of weights:
We compare weights of objects by lifting them up to know which is heavier or lighter.
For example :
1. The bucket of water is heavier than the packet of pencils.
2. The box is lighter than the school bag.
3. The table is heavier than the stapling machine.
4. The eraser is lighter than the hammer.
Presentation Steps :
Step 1 : Revises the previous lesson learnt with the learners by asking them questions
Step 2 : Introduces the new topic by explaining the meaning of weight and identify instruments for measuring weight.
Step 3 : Compare weight of two or more objects using “heavier than” or “lighter than”
Evaluation Questions:
Complete the following using “heavier than or lighter than”
Examples:
A box is (lighter than) a school bag.
A fan is (heavier than) a plate.
1. A television is ______________ a radio.
2. A board marker is ______________ a padlock.
3. A balloon is _______________ a mango.
