Content :
MEANING OF FARM PROCESSING
It is the process of turning raw food into eatable food and other product. This is the transformation of food from solid materials into powder or flakes using a grinding machines.
The processes applied in food processing are as follows :
- Sun drying
- Peeling
- Milling
- Soaking
- Shelling
- Grinding
- Sieving
- Parboiling
PROCESS OF PROCESSING CASSAVA INTO GARRI
i. The farmer will harvest the cassava from his/her farmland.
ii. The cassava tubers will peeled.
iii. Then the cassava will be wash and taken to a machine for grinding.
iv. After grinding it. It will be taken to another machine for removal of water.
v. After the removal of water. It will fried using heat (fire). Then we have garri.
IMPORTANCE OF FOOD PROCESSING
It improves usage of food.
Improves food value.
Removal of poisonous agents from the food.
Helps in storage of food
Provide employment
Provide source of income
It enables us to get different kinds of food from a farm produce.
It makes transporting of produce easy.
Presentation Steps :
Step 1 : The Teacher revises the previous lesson (PROCESS OF MAKING COMPOST).
Step 2 : The Teacher introduces the topic (WHY FARM PRODUCE SHOULD BE PROCESSED).
Step 3 : The Teacher explains the lessons.
